27th United States Secretary of Defense Mark Esper Joins CAES Board of Directors

ARLINGTON, Virginia – (BUSINESS WIRE) – CAES, a pioneer of advanced electronics for the most technologically advanced military and aerospace systems and the largest provider of secure RF, mixed-signal, and digital radiation-hardened technology to the U.S. aerospace industry, announced today, that the 27th US Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper has joined the company’s board of directors.

Dr. Esper served as Secretary of Defense from July 2019 to November 2020 and Secretary of the Army from 2017 to 2019. and will also act as a key advisor to Advent International.

Dr. Mark T. Esper became the 27th Secretary of Defense in July 2019 when he was ratified 90-8 by the U.S. Senate. As Secretary of Defense, Esper was responsible for ensuring the national security of the United States, protecting the American people at home and abroad, and advancing the interests of the country around the world. In this role, he led one of the largest and most complex organizations in the world with nearly three million soldiers and civilians in the defense sector and an annual budget of $ 740 billion. Esper’s responsibilities ranged from organizing, manning, training and equipping the joint armed forces to researching and developing future weapons, concepts and equipment; and from defense trade, diplomacy, and cybersecurity to healthcare, housing, and schools.

Before Dr. Esper became Secretary of Defense, he was the Army’s 23rd Secretary, where he was responsible for over 1.5 million Army active, Guard, Reserve and Civilian soldiers, a $ 180 billion annual budget, and all aspects of Army governance strongest ground combat force in the world.

From 2010 to 2017 he was Vice President, Government Relations at Raytheon Company.

Esper holds a BS from the US Military Academy, an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Washington University. He is a two-time recipient of the DOD medal for the Distinguished Public Service and has received numerous awards throughout his military career, including the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

Dr. Esper is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also the first John S. McCain Distinguished Fellow at the McCain Institute, the Distinguished Chair of the Modern War Institute at West Point, a board member of the Atlantic Council, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
