Charities Aimed At Supporting Men, Fatherhood

Father’s Day is behind us, but this holiday that calls on all of us to celebrate the fathers in our lives led to another question here at The Good Men Project: How can we support fathers all year round?

Of course through charity! Fortunately, there are many great charities out there supporting the welfare of fathers everywhere. If you are looking for a way to give back to other good men these organizations are a great place to start.

The National At-Home Dad Network (NAHDN)

The National At-Home Dad Network, originally called Daddyshome Inc., aims to “provide advocacy, community, education and support for families where fathers are the primary concern for their children,” according to its website.

The organization began in 2003 with three staying home fathers in Washington, DC Mike Stilwell, Peter Steinberg, and Matt Vossler were involved in a local playgroup, wondering why there wasn’t a national network, so other fathers at home around the world Land could also find playgroups for their children.

They teamed up with a lawyer and founded the first and only national non-profit organization for home living fathers, Daddyshome, Inc. in early 2006. Since 2016 the organization has even had a national convention called HomeDadCon, which is now the “second longest paternity event in the world Country and still proudly organized by fathers for fathers, “says the website.

Charities for real men

According to their website, Real Men Charities, Inc.’s mission is to “positively improve the way the world celebrates family and community by promoting opportunities through education, forums and programs with an emphasis on wellness, Fathers and father figures. ”

Real Men Charities is headquartered in the Quarry Event Center in Chicago, Illinois, and is located in the heart of the communities they serve. Founded in 1990 by Yvette Mayo to stand up for families, especially fathers, the organization initially focused on food security, proper nutrition and health care.

“But during our first years of service it became clear that men too urgently needed to address mental and emotional health problems,” the website says. “With that in mind, RMC has expanded its mission to include suicide prevention, improved literacy, mentoring and holistic wellness opportunities for men who use food, the arts, culture and community.”

Men’s Health Network

While not specifically focusing on fatherhood, the Men’s Health Network has a broad focus on improving the health of men everywhere.

The group is primarily a non-profit advocacy and public relations work. The group’s mission is to teach men how to stay connected and find help with all men’s health problems, including sexually transmitted diseases, suicide, and prostate cancer.

The organization is particularly concerned with the growing gap in life expectancy between men and women.

“Because of a lack of awareness, poor health education and culturally determined behavior patterns in their work and private lives, the health and wellbeing of men are steadily deteriorating,” the group said on its website. “The Men’s Health Network (MHN) was founded to address the growing men’s health crisis. Over the past thirty years the male-to-female mortality ratio has increased in all age groups. “

WE charity

WE Charity is not a charity that is specifically dedicated to fatherhood. It is a large charity with a number of programs, many of which aim to empower families in countries around the world, particularly Kenya.

The association was founded by the brothers Marc and Craig Kielburger, who have campaigned for the rights of exploited children since their youth. When the two brothers married and became fathers, this experience shaped their view of charity.

“I want to leave the world behind better than I found it,” said Marc Kielburger. “Now I have the added incentive of wanting to do that for my two little girls. I want your opportunity and legacy to be built on the knowledge that the world is going in a positive direction. “

Of course, these aren’t the only charities worth supporting. There are many other organizations devoted to man and fatherhood.

It’s about encouraging all of us to take a little time and maybe donate some money to make positive changes to the lives of men and fathers.
