Detox Yoga: How Eating, Asana Practice and Breathwork Combine
Indian traditions emphasize that good mental and physical health is directly related to three main activities – what we eat, how we breathe, and how we think. These help us understand the deep connection between our body, mind, emotions and thoughts. One has to find the balance between the physical or the food we eat, the spiritual or the thoughts we get through our thinking, emotions or the reactions or responses to situations we enter and the spiritual aspects we enter in understanding the Experience connection, respect between us and the cosmos.

Based on the principles of Indian science, our lives are mainly composed of elements that are sattva or pure, ahimsa or non-violence, and upyogita or symbiotic life. In this context, a yogic diet is recommended in order to lead a healthy life. A yoga diet that is thousands of years old and has been tried and tested for thousands of years promotes a mindful diet, moderate consumption, a seasonal diet and the enjoyment of organic and natural food. A wholesome diet promotes the concept of “Mit-Aahar” or moderate eating encourages one to consume food that corresponds to one’s own doshas. Our civilization has understood the intricate connection between ecology and us and this is probably the only reason we need to find the lost connection, why we need to discipline our eating habits in harmony with nature. Healthy grains, fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds, etc. that are both fresh and seasonal are the right tools for a healthy lifestyle.
Asanas for the best of health:
Physical exercises like yoga are known to help adjust to the body’s mechanisms. We must now combine individual intelligence with that of universal consciousness. Our seers invented yoga as a way to overcome any inner or outer ailment in order to enable us to live a healthy and peaceful life. Yoga helps center the mind in chaotic times, strengthen immunity, and build a strong but calm mind that can help us withstand anything that comes in our way. Practicing yoga asanas for just 30 minutes a day, combined with simple breathing techniques and meditation, will help stretch the body and mind and make us stronger and more flexible, less lethargic and more active. Not to mention, once we begin our yoga journey, we will be able to live disease and infection free lives.
