Communities around the world are honoring Men’s Health Month
NEVADA, UNITED STATES, June 23, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – The state of Nevada and the city of Henderson, the state of Colorado, and the cities of Arvada, Boulder, Thornton, and Denver and the state of Kansas issued a proclamation in June that celebrates men’s health and fatherhood and helps educate men, boys, and their families about disease prevention, timely checkups, healthy lifestyles, and positive family relationships.
The proclamations of Nevada, Colorado, and Kansas can be found here.
The importance of these efforts was also highlighted in a White House statement.
Raising awareness of the need for healthy lifestyles for men and boys is critical to their wellbeing. The life expectancy of men is five years shorter than that of women, and men are also more likely to die from cancer, diabetes and heart disease. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that women are 100% more likely to see their doctor for annual checkups and preventive measures than men.
Testimonials about the health of men in each state can be found on the State of Men’s Health website (http://www.stateofmenshealth.com/). City and state proclamations can be found at www.MensHealthMonth.com
“As a proud mother, I want my son to understand the fundamental roles that a healthy lifestyle and regular medical checkups can play in extending his life and taking care of my granddaughter,” said Henderson Mayor Debra March. “I’m equally passionate about the welfare of the sons, fathers, and grandfathers of the Henderson families, and I hope that by recognizing June 2021 as Men’s Health Month, the city of Henderson can encourage our citizens to pursue preventive health practices and early detection.”
“We applaud officials in their states for helping raise awareness of the health problems of men and their families by recognizing this year’s period of health awareness for men,” said Ana Fadich, MPH, CHES, Vice President of the men’s health network. “Communities around the world continue to promote the health and wellbeing of men and boys throughout June. We hope that this year’s awareness phase will help men and their families to pay more attention to their health after a doctor’s appointment. “
Across the country, hundreds of health professionals, private businesses, religious organizations, community groups, and other interested organizations help plan activities and events that will focus on men’s health in June and year round. On June 18, MHN encourages participants to use the hashtag #ShowUsYourBlue on social media, where participants raised awareness of men’s health problems through Wearing BLUE.
