Cortez has been practicing yoga for four years. He is a certified teacher with the Veteran’s Yoga Project. He also offers yoga classes at the Cortez Training Center, an affordable holistic health and fitness center in Tampa.

At the center, he teaches yoga and other techniques including personal training, self-defense, massage, cardio, kickboxing, and other non-traditional forms of health and fitness through a holistic approach.

Its mission was to reach out to veterans and families alike. He knows from personal experience how yoga can help reduce stress and improve overall mental health.

He often teaches yoga in the center. Sometimes he hosts it at events like the Love Peace & Soul Retreat in Downtown Auburndale last Saturday.

“This event is amazing,” he said. “I love what this event represents: community [and] Bring people together. all providers are holistic. [We are] Really having a great time out here, networking with a great sense of community. ”

Cortez hosted one of two outdoor yoga classes at the health and fitness event in downtown Auburndale City Park last Saturday. The Love Peace & Soul Retreat also featured several local vendors offering their products to promote holistic health and wellbeing.

The event also featured live music, food trucks selling vegan soul food and Jamaican cuisine, and free haircuts by Jairus Rutherford, the owner of the Second 2 None Barber Shop.

Love Peace And Soul Retreat was hosted by Pieces to Peace Counseling, a local mental health counseling service. The facility originally opened in Auburndale but was relocated to Lakeland due to a fire.

Antoinette Pollard, founder and owner, hosted the event last week to celebrate her fifth anniversary and educate the community about mental health and men’s health. With June being the month of men’s health, Pollard wanted to raise awareness of men’s health issues, especially the black and brown community.

Overall, she appreciated the participation in the event. She was personally torn as to whether she loved the yoga classes or the wellness discussion forum. Anyway, she loved watching her local community come together to educate about the health issues that affect her and the men in her life.

“I think this event was a great way to give back to the community,” she said. “Our guest speakers had an eye on men’s health and the importance of mental health, they do a good job getting this message across … We are delighted that the community has been interested enough in this topic to show support and resources too collect.”

The event also included a health and wellness panel discussion, where many local experts and individuals shared their perspectives on general health issues.

Larry Moore of Heartland Rural Health of Highlands County and his fellow panelists discussed the importance of mental health in relation to black and brown people and other people of color. They also discussed seeking psychological support, taking medication, and “how important it is to your physical health”. [health] to get in tune with your emotions. ”

“We talked about the need to listen to the younger generations about what would be best for them,” he said. “The only thing I want to take away from this event is that young people have a voice and that it should be heard.”

Diane Moore, a psychologist, attended the event to raise awareness about mental health and educate people about the importance of knowing their mental status.

She appreciated attending the event and enjoyed seeing so many people wanting to know more about their mental health problems.

“The takeaway point is getting in touch with your mental health,” she said. “We try to involve the community because nowadays the community needs help and needs to know that there is support in different areas.”
