For your safety … Create a power of attorney for healthcare

For your safety … The creation of a power of attorney for the health service will be offered personally on Tuesday at 1 pm in Van Lare Hall 129 by ACC and via Zoom.

This program deals with planning for decision making in healthcare. Participants will learn more about a Permanent Health Care Power of Attorney (DPOA), why it’s an important document to prepare, what to consider when preparing your document, and how to actually do it. DPOA documents are made available for personal attendees.

Judy M. Nichols is a retired health lobbyist originally from Alpena and now living on Lake Avalon near Hillman. After many years of debate, a law was passed in 1990 that allows one person to choose another person to make healthcare decisions. After the enabling laws were in place, Nichols became part of a team that created the original document appointing proxy. Once created, these documents were made available to hospitals, medical offices, law firms, legislative offices, and other vendors for access and completion. A completed permanent power of attorney for the health record is an essential part of your medical record.

Initial bridge

The Beginning Bridge takes place on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the M. Briggs Center.

These sessions are for those who have never played bridge before, or played so long ago that they are interested in playing modern bridge. You could ask “Why should I learn to play bridge?” Here are some answers: Bridge routinely provides intellectual and social stimulation. An area in the brain that is used when playing the bridge stimulates the immune system. Playing bridge can help people maintain their mental sharpness.

Ron Young is a retired highway engineer. He enjoys traveling, fly fishing, bridge, outdoor activities, and reading for pleasure and understanding. He also serves on the ALL Board of Directors.

Learning / refresher bridge

The Learning / Refresher Bridge will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the M. Briggs Center.

Interested in learning bridge or refreshing memories of playing bridge a long time ago? This is the group for you. The ALL Friday Bridge players are also looking for new participants.

America the beautiful

America the Beautiful will take place in person on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Van Lare Hall 129 at ACC and via Zoom.

This will be a comprehensive presentation from the Biden-Harris Administration “America the beautiful” Initiative and discussion of the science that drives climate change.

Joe Gentry is the executive director of the United Way of Northeast Michigan, former ACC special professor of economics and current ACC trustee.

Contract bridge

Contract Bridge takes place on Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the M. Briggs Center.

This is an ongoing group of card players that welcomes every player at all times. The group is a teaching class but also welcomes experienced players.
