Best Copycat Starbucks Dragon Drink Recipe

In a few days the 4th of July weekend is approaching, and for me that means meeting friends and family and finding lots of easy recipes for outdoor barbecues. Above all, lots of cool and refreshing drinks to quench our thirst.

Today I’m sharing one of Starbucks’ favorite spring and summer beverages with you. The Starbucks dragon drink was originally on their Secret Menu, but became a permanent feature in 2019 due to its popularity.

Until recently, I would order a Dragon drink from Starbucks a few times a month. But as always, it just got too expensive to pay a crazy price every time. Especially since I’ve always ordered the Large or Grande.

As with so many Starbucks recipes like this Copycat Starbucks Double Chocolate Frappuccino and this Copycat Starbucks White Chocolate Frappuccino, I had to come up with a copycat version of the Dragon Drink.

What is a Starbucks Dragon Drink?

I went to my local Starbucks and enjoyed this fantastic drink one more time and was able to chat with one of the baristas who explained the technique they use and also about the optional addition of tea for a caffeine boost. With all the information I got, I went home and started experimenting. First I ran to Trader Joe to get the dragon fruit powder. Walmart and Amazon have it, as well as some grocery stores like Whole Foods.

I just want to mention that dragon fruit has some health benefits. It’s high in antioxidants and has a nice amount of fiber. It looks so exotic but has a taste similar to a pear after the fruit is peeled. Mild and tasty.

A few recipe notes to share with yourself: Starbucks uses coconut milk in its recipe. Coconut milk is creamy and gives the drink a tropical taste. However, some of you are not fans of coconut milk, I made this with almond milk and the dragon drink turned out just as delicious without the coconut flavor. The mango juice is sometimes mixed with other flavored juices. That’s fine too. I like to use a combination of mango and peach, but sometimes I just use mango. Starbucks also uses a shaker to make its dragon drink. I’ve done this method and it works well and comes out tasty. If you don’t have a shaker, you can use an emptied jar or mason jar with a lid and shake the drink that way. Or use a blender. It gets a little frothy which I happen to love. So I hope you make this easy drink and enjoy!
